This program would suit any workplace paying under $90,000 in WSIB premiums but would be especially valuable to owners and managers who are looking for support in starting or improving their in house Health & Safety (H&S) program.

This program is open to any sized firm interested in improving Health & Safety within their workplace.

Eligibility for a WSIB rebate is dependant on the following criteria:

  1. Pays $90,000 or less in WSIB premiums per year
  2. Has not participated in SCIP before
  3. Is not part of a WSIB Safety Group
  4. Can be participating in NEER, MAPP or CAD-7

Who Can Participate

The program is for owners and senior managers.  Research and experience shows that commitment and leadership from the top level is essential to developing effective health & safety programs

To be eligiable for a WSIB rebate, participating firms must:

  • attend all 4 training sessions (16 hours)
  • complete an Employer Self-Evaluation Checklist
  • submit a company health & safety policy statement
  • develope and submit a written roles & responsibilites document
  • develope and submit a health & safety action plan

All of these items must be completed and provided to facilitator at the 4TH session of the course.

Once all items have been reviewed for completion, your firm will be eligible for a 5% rebate on last year’s WSIB premiums.

To be eligiable for the Certificate of Completion, participating firms must:

  • meet all the SCIP requirements
  • attend the BONUS contractor specific session

The cost to participate in the SCIP program is $250 for firms paying up to $10,000 in WSIB premiums or 2.5 % of WSIB premiums above $10,000, to a maximum of $500, and includes:

  • 16 hours of in class H&S management training (SCIP PLUS adds a BONUS 4 hours of training)
  • Room for up to 2 participants per organization
  • All classroom materials & workbooks
  • Annual membership to Bay of Quinte Safe Communities
  • Member discounted rates to upcoming safety workshops & conferences
  • Access to “member’s only” website containing H&S management resources, templates and training aides
  • Access to mentors – Health & Safety professionals
  • Ongoing support for your in house Health & Safety program
  • Support of Bay of Quinte Safe Communities - a not for profit, community based safety organization
  • With SCIP PLUS you will also receive a Certificate of Completion, verifying you have completed a 20 hour health & safety program and developed an in-house health & safety progrm.

SCIP PLUS for Contractors

Extra value for owners & managers of firms who contract out their services, tender bids or apply for "approved contractor" or "inclusive bidder" status with larger firms.

All the benefits of SCIP "PLUS" a BONUS session dealing with:

  • Meeting the health & safety requirements of your corporate customers
  • Integrating into their health & safety policies/program
  • How to effectively communicate health & safety with your customer
  • Roles and responsibilities for keeping all workers safe (yours & theirs)

  • Contractor (site specific) safety orientation

After meeting all SCIP requirements and attending this BONUS session, Bay of Quinte Safe Communities will issue firms with a Certificate of Completion, verifying that they have completed 20 hours of health & safety training and have developed an in-house health & safety program. This certificate can be attached when submitting tenders or applying for "approved contractor" or "inclusive bidder" status.

The next SCIP PLUS for Contractors program starts May 11, 2010.

Non-contractring firms are also welcome to join and all eligiable firms will receive a 5% rebate upon completion of the SCIP requirements.

Upcoming SCIP Plus program:

To complete the SCIP program and receive a WSIB rebate, participants must attend the first 4 sessions and meet all WSIB requirements.

To receive a letter of introduction verifying completion of this program, participants must also attend the BONUS session to be held this fall.

Location: 116 Pinnacle Street (upstairs), in Belleville, Ontario.
The building is next to the Legion and within the first block north of Highway #2 (Dundas Street).
     
Parking: Parking is available behind the building or at the public lot 1/2 blocks north.
